What keeps us going

“Just getting out there on the road and putting a smile on others’ faces is what keeps us going”

The above appeared today when I updated the information on The YesWeCan CamperVan’s Facebook page. Here’s the rest of my update:

To make roadtrips with our 1971 vintage VW campervan to raise awareness for causes that have low visibility and deserve a whole lot more. Please support us by ‘liking’ this Facebook page, inviting your friends to join and subscribing to our website at https://yeswecanjourney.wordpress.com Also follow us on twitter and tweet about our causes @yeswecanjourney.  THANK YOU.

The YesWeCan CamperVan is a 1971 VW Westfalia camper van, with pop up roof for camping. It was so named by the current owner, Carole Brown, to inspire her to keep going on her ‘maiden voyage’ while driving across the USA in 2010 . This VW is also known as Dexter, so named by the first owner (also female) in Oregon, who shipped the VW to the USA from Germany in 1971, after driving it around Europe.

The YesWeCan CamperVan will, therefore, be celebrating his 40th birthday this year.
Carole and Dexter hope that their travels will inspire others to follow their dreams and use their vintage VWs for good causes.
“Just getting out there on the road and putting a smile on others’ faces is what keeps us going”.

Also what keeps me going with my writings is your participation and interaction. Otherwise I sit here alone writing into a blank space!

I know how many times my posts get read … and it’s a lot … but I don’t know who most of you are. So, when you make a comment on a post here (comments box appears at the bottom of every post) or you click  ‘like’ on one of my messages on the Van’s Facebook page, it’s very encouraging. And it’s really great when one of you subscribes to this blog (top right corner of this page; make sure you reply to the email you’ll receive to re-confirm) or you get some of your friends to sign up to our growing number of friends on Facebook.  You see, it’s those actions by readers that keep me going here on this blog and on Facebook.

And when you participate and share your thoughts, it’s so encouraging because it means that when me and The YesWeCan CamperVan do our roadtrips and rally for a Cause, we are not alone because we know you are behind us. We know that with your support we can succeed in telling more people about the causes that we believe in and so help those that our causes touch.

In 2011, we hope that we can succeed with our ‘Drive to put MG on the Map’. Right now we’re waiting to hear if we have sponsors to cover the expense of the gas and oil for the drive across country. Please comment if you know of any small business or individuals who would like to make a donation or advertise on The YesWeCan CamperVan.  Thank you.

And to keep you going, and showing you our support, here’s a few pictures of us on our 2009/2010 test run from CA to MA.  We did over 9,000 miles last year, so we know we can easily do 6,000 this year! What do you think ….  is it a vote for “YesWeCan”?

Facebook friends

This weekend The YesWeCan CamperVan received its 400th friend on Facebook.

One of the loveliest things about having Facebook friends is seeing the messages they post, others’ photos and videos and the discoveries they have made. Here is one from recent VW friend, Vera D’hooge, who lives in Belgium. This video she told me about shows a VW in India in 1971.

You just have to watch this and please comment below and share with your friends.
