Our little VW Caravan: Lake Havasu, AZ, to Mentone, CA

As I drove my 1971 VW bus ‘The YesWeCan CamperVan’ (aka Dexter) with the VTO club in a small caravan of VW buses, I filmed us as we went across the desert of western Arizona into eastern California.

We had left ‘Buses by the Bridge XVI’ in Lake Havasu City, Arizona mid afternoon and the setting sun made the desert glow as we followed a smaller road into California before getting onto the I-10 freeway.

The chart below shows the number of views per month since I started this blog, from the time I first collected my wonderful 1971 VW Westfalia from Oregon in December 2009. Little did I know then that The YesWeCan CamperVan would carry me through so many miles in such a short space of time. 14,000 miles over two years, including only nine months on the road, is pretty awesome, isn’t it?

Yet the performance of this blog, in terms of numbers of visitors, by no means matches my VW.

So I am asking you to please share your opinions via the comment box below … or on our Facebook page in the Note on Blog performance about what you’d like to see more of on these pages and the topics that interest you most. Over 5,000 miles for MG Awareness!

We arrived in Mentone, California, east of Los Angeles earlier this week. See http://vw4causes.org/mga-route/ for the route we followed from our starting point in Provincetown, Cape Cod, on the east coast, that’s 5,109 miles so far!

Yesterday on my Facebook wall, a conversation started between my VW help guy, Kenneth Mitchell (he’s our back up guy for our current coast to coast drive for MG awareness) and a new VW friend, Amanda. It started from me asking Amanda if her Westy was born the same year as The YesWeCan CamperVan, in 1971. She was not sure if it was a 70 or a 71, so a very interesting conversation then ensued between her and Ken. I have copied and posted this into the Notes section on The YesWeCan CamperVan’s Facebook page. To view it you can click here.

By the way, it was only yesterday that I discovered that Amanda happens to live in the very town in which I’d arrived the day before – Lake Havasu City, Arizona. So we’ll be meeting today and so will our VW Westfalias. Look out for photos of the duo and pics of M plates here soon.

We’ve driven over 3,000 miles now on our MG Awareness drive.

As well as updating the route in our bus window, we also added a thing or two …


And picked up an addition so we can carry even more stuff – leaflets and handouts for education and ribbons, bracelets, photocards for fund-raising for gas!!!!

Hardly any room in VW for Carole to sleep, so just had to get this!
